Dynaudio's newly developed speaker series Contour has entered the market with great success. Dynaudio chose kaastrup|andersen to lead the development of the project, which included a number of new business-critical elements.
Dynaudio had plans to give their acclaimed speaker series Contour a facelift. And not just an exterior facelift, but also an enhancement of the audio speaker, so the company's existing market position would be strengthened. Efforts to improve sound, design and the interaction between the individual elements of the speaker itself require a high degree of coordination, which also includes the many different suppliers.
Dynaudio’s acclaimed speaker series Contour needed a facelift to generate more sales. The vision for the new version was therefore that it should be significantly better than the old one and that it should be positioned optimally in the market compared to the competitors. The goal was to create a series that preserve the original spirit of the Contour series, but at the same time raise the bar for how good sound should be.
Some components could be reused from Dynaudio's top models, but most had to be developed from scratch to achieve the goal of improved sound. In addition, the design also needed to improve to become more contemporary. When the goal is to improve sound, you must think in systems, as the interaction between the unit, the filter and the cabinet is what creates the good sound. In addition, sound is also a very subjective matter, which can not only be measured but must also be felt. Dynaudio defines the good sound using a specially selected listening panel. Only when the sound is approved by the panel the design is completed and implemented.
An ambitious development project like this also poses challenges for suppliers. New shapes of the cabinet had to be made ready for production, sharper tolerances required higher capability, new materials required new processing methods and collaboration was established with brand new suppliers - both national and international.
The series was launched in late 2016 to become part of high season sales. The series has been very well received as demand exceeds all expectations.
